The former University of Miami football player-turned trial lawyer Jim Ferraro has finished building a massive 27,000-square-foot estate on Martha's Vineyard, and his neighbors aren't too pleased, according to The Wall Street Journal.
Martha's Vineyard is known for its discretion, but Ferraro, who earned his fortune by bringing lawsuits against pharmaceutical makers, chemical companies and asbestos companies, reportedly likes to live large.
The estate, in West Chop, cost around $27 million to build, and has 61 rooms in five buildings. It's one of the largest estates on the island and has hosted up to 50 of Ferraro's friends and family at once.
In order to pacify some of his neighbors, Ferraro presented plans of the house at zoning boards meeting and let residents vote on which one they liked the most. Even so, neighbors now call Ferraro's compound the "Taj Mahal."
Ferraro spends time on the compound with his three children and said he hopes to pass it down in the family someday.
Talk about a family fortune.
