Will the other Stanley Cup finalist be decided tonight?
One half of the Stanley Cup Final was determined when the New York Rangers beat the Montreal Canadiens last night.
The other could be decided tonight if the Los Angeles Kings win at home against the Chicago Blackhawks. They won both of their previous home games against Chicago during the Western Conference Final.
Key players to watch:
Patrick Kane, Blackhawks
After being limited to one assist in the first four games of the Western Conference Final, Kane erupted for four assists. He's a big-game player. Can we expect more of the same tonight?
Anze Kopitar, Kings
He has points in 16 of the Kings' 19 games this postseason and leads the league with 23 points. Only two players have had more in Kings history: Wayne Gretkzy (40) and Tomas Sandstrom (25), both in 1993.
Brandon Saad, Blackhawks
Coach Joel Quenneville put Saad, Kane and Andrew Shaw together in Game 5, and that line is what kept the Blackhawks' season alive. Saad is the type of secondary scorer that a team needs to thrive in the playoffs.
Drew Doughty, Kings
Chicago's Duncan Keith is the Norris Trophy finalist in the series, but Doughty has been playing like one in the playoffs. He's averaging nearly 28 minutes a night (best among those still in the playoffs) and is tied for the league defense lead with 14 points, second in shots (48), tied for first in plus-minus (plus 8) and second in power play points (eight). He played nearly 40 minutes in Game 5.
Corey Crawford, Blackhawks
Heading into the third period of Game 2, Crawford was a candidate for the Conn Smythe Trophy. Then the bottom dropped out as he gave up four goals. He was pulled in Game 4, and when he gave up four goals in Game 5, it looked like the more of the same. Then he settled down and allowed nothing after the 13:08 mark of the second period. He was particularly strong in overtime. That's the performance that the Blackhawks need from him to keep their hopes of a repeat alive.
