Golding says Campbell should give up one of his jobs
OPPOSITION Leader Bruce Golding yesterday raised concerns about Senator Colin Campbell continuing as both minister of information and general secretary of the ruling People’s National Party (PNP).
Referring to Campbell’s recent remarks that the JLP was acting irresponsible in pre-election promises it has been making to the public, Golding suggested that the prime minister find herself a new minister of information; or the PNP a new general secretary.
“Mr Colin Campbell is general secretary of the People’s National Party. He is also minister of information. I say, on a matter of principle, it is wrong to have the general secretary of the party as minister of information. You are never sure where propaganda stops and information begins and the two must not mix,” Golding told the meeting of the JLP’s Central Executive at the Jamaica Conference Centre, downtown Kingston yesterday.
“His predecessor, Mr Burchell Whiteman, occupied both positions, but I will say to his credit that Burchell Whiteman, in an amazing way, managed to balance those two responsibilities without losing either his credibility or his integrity. But Colin Campbell is not a Burchell Whiteman.
